Last year, Larissa Ione introduced “The Moodbound Clan Vampires” series with the opening book “Bound by Night” which I thought was a fresh new take on vampire books. (I’ve included a link to my prior thoughts on this novel below) In this series, Ms. Ione revolutionizes the Vampire myth by bringing it out of the dark ages and into Modern America. Our new sexy vampires are now of Native American decent- this means all things Native American by incorporating tribal customs and mythology as well as tribal wars, slavery and revolutions against man and tribal gods.

Chained by Night has taken this series to a new level by bringing in a new heroine element- disability/disfigurement. If you want a real heroine, Aylin, with all the human emotions, here’s your chance to see how the other person feels; in this case Aylin, who was born with a birth defect, made to feel not only undervalued but unworthy, unloved and enslaved by her own Clan finds the strength to overcome these emotional and physical obstacles and become a powerhouse female.

Ione pairs this strong female to Hunter- a second generation Vampire and leader of the Moonbound Clan. Yes, he’s a strong, tall, handsome man who has earned the respect of his Clan through hard work and doing what’s necessary for the good of the clan. Yet, you’ll frequently find him blowing off steam by playing video games–to help him think.

For those looking for something fresh, new, well written and want to emotionally invest several hours in, this is the book for you. If you’re into vampires who are quirky or dark or come from an ancient line descended from thousands of years ago, this book may not be for you. The spine of this book states “Pocket Books Fiction”– not romance, not horror. But, to give fair warning for those who need it, there is violence, sex and yes, erotic blood-sucking.
